Kong Lear eller Daddy Issues (Kong Lear or Daddy Issues)

Teater

Husets Teater, København

Dato

2023

Eng:

Cordelia has summoned her father. She wants an apology for his failure, but can she get it, or will she throw both herself and him into a storm that will, if possible, make them both even more disoriented?

Shakespeare’s tale of King Lear is about an aging father who disinherits his youngest daughter Cordelia. In this version, Shakespeare’s tragedy is cut down to father and daughter on stage, and gets close to their conflict and longing for reconciliation.

“When I cut Shakespeare’s drama down to two characters, father and daughter, it is to be able to immerse myself in that relationship and give the actors great freedom to travel deep into their relationship, and hopefully show the audience something very special about just such a relationship.” – Liv Helm

"A small stroke of genius"
BERLINGSKE

"Liv Helm makes a precise surgical incision that cuts Shakespeare's tragedy to the bone. The result is both a thought-provoking and entertaining dissection of the relationship between daughters and their fathers"
ISCENE

"In Helm's funny and moving King Lear at Husets Teater, the words are small and chilling. Here Cukic's intense Lear/father ends up in explicit struggle with his daughter and the story"
